The programme has 29 years of history. Over the years, most than 600 graduates in Portugal, Poland and most recently in Colombia, started their careers as Management Trainees at the Jerónimo Martins Group. Many of them reached top management positions. In other words, what the programme is today, reflects years of experience in developing graduate talent and shaping the careers of future business leaders.

PROGRAMME IN DETAIL

The Management Trainee Programme is a unique opportunity to join the world of Jerónimo Martins.

We provide a whole year of learning and growth as well as an opportunity to learn and work with our professionals who contribute to the Group’s success every day.

The programme has been built to ensure the balance between the general comprehension of key business concepts and the development of practical skills through hands-on experience.

We make sure our Management Trainees are well prepared for their future challenges.

The programme lasts one year

Your development is planned long term.

General Business Training

As a group, Management Trainees are introduced to the principles of our business and get to know about our Companies and their respective functions within the Group.
The highlight is set on training in Operations (Stores) and Logistics. Management Trainees not only deepen technical knowledge, essential for the industry, but also have the opportunity to live and breathe our core-business. This allows Management Trainees to be able to start defining their personal vision of career development within the Group.

Individual Function Training

Considering the long term development goals defined for each Management Trainee, after a few months, they are assigned to specific departments/roles and foster growth in a more individual manner, by developing skills specific to the business and functional area in which they work. Upon completion of the individual training, Management Trainees may continue in the same functional area or change, depending on the defined goals and their individual performance, as well as on the business’ needs.

After the Programme

Upon the termination of their programme, Management Trainees formally enter their first functions with real responsibility for results.
First they explore their assigned functional area and acquire knowledge and skills specific to that area.
At the same time, however, due to a gradual development of their leadership capacity, they are expected to demonstrate the highest levels of performance and potential in order to be seen as good candidates to formally be appointed as managers and continue their growth in the Group in the long term.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

We offer the best candidates the possibility of an accelerated career development. We value the following characteristics.

Solid academic background

A relevant Master’s Degree from a renowned university, in any field of expertise ranging from Business, Science, Technology, Engineering to Arts and Humanities. The ability to demonstrate a solid academic track-record is a must.

Proactive attitude

We seek people that were active while studying, through internship programmes, voluntary work or engagement in various organisations. The candidates must not have more than 2 years of professional experience following their graduation.

International experience

The best candidates have built their intercultural competence through an international student exchange (e.g. Erasmus) or work-and-travel experience outside their home country.

Command of English

Being an international Group, we expect our candidates to be able to use English at an advanced level. The minimum requirement is B2 (European scale) that guarantees a working proficiency in English. The final phases of the recruitment process are conducted entirely in English.

Drive

Dynamism, curiosity and ability to swiftly learn every single day, by participating in challenging projects, to make tough choices and to take responsible decisions. Skill in influencing others, coupled with the ability to inspire. Eagerness to always reach for more, resilience and a passion for achievement.

Geographic Mobility

Considering the geographically dispersed structure of our business, the candidates are expected to be mobile country-wide and among countries to meet their development challenges during the programme as well as upon its completion.

Availability

Our full-time programme is available to graduates with a master’s degree completed or nearing completion.
